If you are interested in working with us, please look at our listings below and specify which role(s) you would like to fill:
As a columnist you will contribute weekly content to the website and bi-monthly to the digital publication. It is your job to offer up your commentary and opinion as it relates to the mission of the magazine. You can develop the name and theme of your column or work with the editors.
The duty of the features writer is to write stories to be published on the website and in digital print. Features consist of interviews, profiles, behind the scenes, or an in-depth analysis. These stories are typically longer (2,000 to 4,000 words) and may require more interviews and research. You will be required to write stories as assigned by the editors or be asked to develop your own story ideas.
As a sections writer you will be the voice of a particular topic of stories. With the “Heroine Next Door” section you will write about women that exemplify the mission of the magazine. With “Tattoo Trends” you will write about trends in the tattoo industry from advancements in tattooing to popular tattoos to get. Other sections will be added to the magazine, and interns are encouraged to pitch their ideas to the editor. Writers can contribute to one section or can write for more than one. These stories typically range between 600 and 800 words.
Photography interns are encouraged to tell the story through photographs. As a photography intern you will pitch story ideas to the editor or you will be assigned a project. You can contribute single photographs or a series of photographs to complete an editorial. Photographs can be taken to accompany features or section stories as well.
It is the job of the illustrator to use different mediums to create visuals to accompany feature and sections stories as assigned by the editor. Illustrators can also tell a story through their illustrations as an editorial piece. Single illustrations can be published as well. There is the opportunity to have illustrations featured on the website once a week.
Flash Fiction Writer
Flash fiction writers will create fictional stories that align with the theme of the magazine. These pieces can stand alone or be part of a series. Some stories will be featured on the website once a week as part of our “Flash Fiction Fridays” section.
